a multi-faceted

ARTIST

“We are more than our suffering.

We are also amazing creatives, intellectuals,

problem solvers, storytellers, and innovators.

We are curious explorers of what it means to be fully human.

This includes joy; and our celebrations are sacred experiences.

I'm often invited to speak on the relationship

between storytelling and social justice,

but I really wish to also speak more on

artistic craft, on innovation, on creative expression.

I have a lot to say, and I create a lot.

Beyond my consulting and workshops,

beyond my books and keynotes,

beyond my activism and being the founder of The Nasiona,

I am ARTIST!”

As a self-described genre-less artist, Julián's approach allows for a fluid interchange between visual art, literature, sound, and performance. This openness to cross-pollination and interdisciplinary work has led to innovative artistic expressions. While not all of his works necessarily merge all these elements, his genre-less philosophy creates a fertile ground for unique intersections and expressions across artistic domains. This versatility and willingness to transcend traditional boundaries have solidified Julián's position as a multifaceted and influential artist in the contemporary creative landscape.

Julián's

ARTIST’S

STATEMENT

As an explorer of imagination and liberation, I navigate the intricate intersections of art, culture, and ethics, challenging conventional boundaries to cultivate deeper insights, empowerment, and transformation. My work is a fearless embrace of the abstract and non-linear aspects of subjective experience, an expedition into the uncharted territories of our relationships and the human psyche.

I believe in the revolutionary power of culture, storytelling, and creative expression. My art is an act of reclamation—a deliberate exorcism of the shadows and specters of colonialism and imperialism that continue to haunt our collective consciousness. By excavating my own idiosyncrasies beyond benchmarked depths and ferreting through obscured tunnels of immeasurable distances, I challenge the strict, imploding canons constructed by those who fear "indecorous behavioral deviance."

In my work, I celebrate the "irrationality" and logic of dreams, even the sanity of nightmares, as catalysts for creativity. I explore the shapelessness of spectral consciousness, allowing unconventional symbolisms to breathe, helix twist, and flower new inheritances. This process of mining my interiority forges connections between the personal and the universal, unearthing layers of meaning once speculated as unimaginable.
